40-Year-Old Female Staff Member Sent to Judicial Custody in Goregaon School Sexual Harassment Case
Mumbai: In a disturbing case involving the alleged sexual harassment of a four-year-old girl at a Goregaon (West) school, the City Civil and Sessions Court in Dindoshi on Friday ordered the 40-year-old female accused to be held in judicial custody until October 1.
The incident took place at a renowned school located on Link Road, Goregaon West, on September 15. Following the complaint, the Goregaon police promptly arrested the female assistant staff member of the school, aged 40. Investigations are currently underway, with police reviewing CCTV footage to ascertain whether the accused may have targeted other children as well.
Child’s Complaints and Early Signs
The victim is a kindergarten student attending a high school where classes run from 11:00 am to 2:15 pm. The child’s grandmother regularly drops her off and picks her up from school every day.
For approximately 15 days prior to the complaint, the girl had been telling relatives about experiencing pain in a certain part of her body and was refusing to let her mother touch that area. Initially, the mother assumed the pain was due to dehydration or insufficient water intake.
Revelation on September 15
On September 15, around 4:00 pm, when the mother took her daughter to the washroom, the child said, “Do not touch me, I am feeling pain; a school didi touched me there, I am feeling pain.” The victim’s grandmother also reported that the girl complained about pain while changing clothes.
Later that evening, the mother visited the school and met with the principal around 6:00 pm. The principal assured her that the child was truthful. However, since most staff members had already left for the day, the principal requested her to return the following day for further discussion.
Medical Examination and Police Proceedings
The complainant took her daughter to Cloudnine Hospital in Malad West for a medical examination before filing a police complaint. The Goregaon police registered the case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act along with applicable sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
As part of the investigation, the victim identified the accused, who was subsequently arrested on September 16. Both the victim and the accused underwent medical examinations at Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali West. The police continue to examine school CCTV footage to collect further evidence.
Our thoughts are with the victim and her family during this difficult time. Authorities are committed to conducting a thorough investigation to ensure justice is served.
