WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump called for the firing of the federal prosecutor who is reportedly weighing mortgage fraud claims against New York State Attorney General Letitia James.
“I want him out,” the president said on Friday during a press briefing in the Oval Office. His comments came in response to a question about U.S. Attorney Erik Siebert, whom Trump nominated in May for the position of U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.
Although Siebert has yet to be confirmed by the Senate, Trump revealed that he had changed his mind about the nomination after learning that two Democratic Virginia Senators, Tim Kaine and Mark Warner, had expressed support for Siebert.
“When I saw that he got two senators, two gentlemen that are bad news as far as I’m concerned, when I saw that he got approved by these two men, I said, pull him, because he can’t be any good,” Trump claimed.
