**Stanford University Releases Annual List of World’s Top 2% Scientists: 49 Researchers from Lucknow Featured**
Lucknow has once again made a significant mark on the global scientific community. Stanford University released its annual list of the world’s top 2% scientists on 20 September 2024, with 49 researchers from Lucknow making the esteemed cut.
Among the contributors, Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) led the way with 15 doctors featured, including the institute’s director, Prof. R.K. Dhiman. Other notable SGPGI faculty members named in the list include:
– Dr. Narayan Prasad, Head of Nephrology
– Dr. Jayanti Kalita, Head of Neurology
– Dr. Rakesh Agarwal, Head of Gastroenterology
– Dr. Amita Agarwal, Head of Immunology
Former SGPGI faculty such as Prof. Balraj Mittal and Dr. Rama Devi Mittal also earned recognition.
King George’s Medical University (KGMU) followed closely, with 12 doctors on the list. Among the distinguished names were neurologists Dr. R.K. Garg and Dr. Rajesh Verma, along with pulmonologist Dr. Suryakant.
Lucknow University had five faculty members featured, including physicist Prof. Amritanshu Shukla, who has been recognized for the sixth consecutive year. Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) contributed 15 names from diverse fields such as environmental sciences, physics, computer science, and mathematics.
Dr. Anuj Sharma from the Department of Mechatronics and Prof. Arun Tiwari from Mechanical Engineering represented Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU) with two faculty members on the list.
Prof. R.K. Dhiman expressed pride over SGPGI’s substantial contribution to the list, stating that the recognition highlights the global acceptance of Indian doctors’ expertise. He added that this accolade would serve as an inspiration for younger researchers to strive for excellence.
The inclusion of such a large group of scientists from Lucknow underscores the city’s growing prominence in international research, spanning medicine, environmental studies, physics, and engineering.
This achievement not only brings laurels to the individual researchers and their institutions but also positions Lucknow as a vibrant hub of scientific innovation and academic excellence on the world stage.
