Reliance Consumer Products Limited (RCPL), a subsidiary of Reliance Retail, has announced a significant investment in Tamil Nadu. The company plans to invest ₹1,156 crore to establish an integrated manufacturing facility at the SIPCOT Allikulam Industrial Park in Thoothukudi district.

The new plant will be spread over 60 acres and will function as a multi-product hub producing regional snacks, biscuits, spices, atta (flour), edible oils, and other essential food staples. This facility is expected to create around 2,000 local jobs over the next five years, providing a substantial employment boost to the region.

### Employment Boost in Tamil Nadu

The establishment of RCPL’s manufacturing facility marks a major development in Tamil Nadu’s fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) manufacturing sector. The state government has been actively promoting Tamil Nadu as a prime destination for consumer goods companies, leveraging its robust infrastructure, established industrial parks, and supportive policies to attract investments.

### Strategic Move Under the “Dravidian Model”

The announcement of RCPL’s investment aligns with Tamil Nadu’s broader strategy to attract major FMCG players through what the state terms the “Dravidian Model” of governance. Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has been focusing on sectoral diversification to strengthen the state economy.

This move underscores Tamil Nadu’s growing appeal as a hub for consumer goods manufacturing and demonstrates the government’s commitment to generating employment opportunities for local communities.

With this investment, Tamil Nadu further solidifies its position as a key player in India’s FMCG sector, promising growth and development in the years to come.
