**Washington DC: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir Meet Former U.S. President Donald Trump**
On Friday, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir held a meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump at the Oval Office in Washington DC. During their discussion, Sharif and Munir extended an invitation to Trump to visit Pakistan at his convenience.
According to some reports, the delegation was reportedly kept waiting for a while before the meeting commenced. However, an official statement released by Pakistan highlighted the positive tone of the engagement. The statement noted that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised Trump for his “bold, courageous, and decisive leadership in facilitating the Pakistan-India ceasefire.”
This acknowledgment comes amid differing narratives regarding the ceasefire that followed Operation Sindoor—Pakistan’s military operation targeting terror and military infrastructure. While Pakistan alludes to Trump’s mediation efforts, India has consistently denied any foreign intervention in brokering the ceasefire. India maintains that the ceasefire agreement was reached through direct communication between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMO) of both countries, following the operation.
Operation Sindoor was launched in response to a terror attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which tragically took the lives of 26 civilians.
The official Pakistani statement further elaborated on the meeting, stating:
“Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met with US President Donald J. Trump at the Oval Office today. The Prime Minister lauded President Trump’s bold, courageous, and decisive leadership for facilitating the Pakistan-India ceasefire and praised his initiative to invite key Muslim world leaders to efforts aimed at bringing an immediate end to the conflict in Gaza and restoring peace in the Middle East.”
In addition to discussing regional peace efforts, the leaders also explored opportunities to enhance bilateral relations. The Prime Minister invited increased U.S. investment in Pakistan’s key sectors and emphasized the importance of further strengthening security and intelligence cooperation between the two nations.
The statement concluded by highlighting the invitation extended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Donald Trump for an official visit to Pakistan, whenever the former president wishes to undertake it.
