**Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation Receives 318 Objections to Proposed Ward Structure**
Pimpri-Chinchwad: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has received a total of 318 objections to its proposed ward formation structure for the upcoming municipal elections. A significant majority—276 objections—were submitted on Thursday, the final day for filing.
Compared to the last election cycle in 2017, the number of objections is considerably lower. At that time, PCMC had received as many as 1,430 objections regarding the ward structure.
Assistant Commissioner Avinash Shinde, who oversees PCMC’s Taxation and Tax Collection Department, shared these figures. “Many of these objections are similar. A hearing on these objections will be held next week,” he said.
PCMC had released the proposed ward structure on August 22, making the map available on its official website. By Wednesday, 42 objections had been received, with the rest filed on the final day. The corporation stopped accepting objections at 3 pm on Thursday.
Several political parties, with the exception of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), have voiced opposition to the proposed ward structure. They claim that the current design favors the BJP, as was alleged during the previous election.
The proposed ward structure shows minimal changes compared to the last election’s layout. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), led by Ajit Pawar, has been particularly vocal in its criticism, stating that the design does not comply with legal requirements.
The majority of objections originated from Ward 10, which alone accounted for 115 objections.
Residents of Pimpri-Chinchwad eagerly await the scheduled hearing next week, which will provide clarity on the final ward structure ahead of the municipal elections.
