**Zoho IPO Soon? Here’s What Founder Sridhar Vembu Said**

Sridhar Vembu, the co-founder and CEO of Zoho, has once again emphasized that the company is not in a hurry to go public. In a recent post on X, he shared insights into why Zoho prefers to remain private for now, highlighting how some of their key projects, such as Arattai, might not have been possible under the financial pressures typical of publicly traded companies.

### Engineering Focus: Building Capabilities in India

Vembu explained that the decision to pursue projects like Arattai—a product he described as a “hopelessly foolish” endeavor—stemmed from a deep belief in fostering strong engineering talent within India. Despite initial skepticism from employees about the project’s success, Zoho pursued it with a clear goal in mind.

“We built it because we felt we need that kind of engineering capability in Bharat. We need a lot more of such capabilities in Bharat and we are on it,” Vembu stated, underscoring Zoho’s commitment to strengthening India’s tech landscape.

### Long-Term R&D Initiatives

Beyond individual projects, Vembu revealed that Zoho is actively engaged in long-range research and development across multiple technology domains. These include compilers, databases, operating systems, security, hardware, chip design, robotics, and artificial intelligence.

The company has also invested in numerous R&D-intensive firms where immediate profitability is not expected. “Zoho is a kind of an industrial research lab that also makes money to fund itself,” Vembu explained, highlighting the unique balance between innovation and self-sustainability that defines the company.

### A Frugal and Sustainable Approach

Vembu also shed light on Zoho’s internal culture, noting that the leadership team embraces a frugal lifestyle similar to that of ISRO’s scientists and engineers. This emphasis on simplicity helps the company prioritize resources for innovation and long-term growth rather than short-term profits.

He described this philosophy as the “essence of Bharat,” drawing parallels to Japan’s developmental model centered around frugality and sustainable progress.
