**NHRC Takes Cognizance of Alleged Illegal Conversion Racket Targeting Hindu Children in Madhya Pradesh**
*Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh* – The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo-motu cognizance of a recent complaint alleging the operation of an illegal conversion racket across multiple districts of Madhya Pradesh. The racket reportedly targets Hindu children with the intent of converting them to Islam.
The NHRC has directed the Principal Secretary of the School Education Department to conduct a thorough inquiry into the complaint and submit an action taken report (ATR) within 15 days.
NHRC member Priyank Kanoongo stated that the Commission received the complaint on September 26. It alleges that 556 Hindu children were enrolled in 27 unauthorized madrasas located in Morena, Islampura, Zaura, Poursa, Ambah, Kailaras, Sambalgarh, and other areas of the state. These madrasas, operating without government sanction, are said to teach Hindu children the Quran and Hadees, violating several laws and regulations.
According to the complaint, this practice contravenes the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act, 2015, Article 28(3) of the Constitution of India, and a Madhya Pradesh Government Order dated August 16, 2024. This order explicitly prohibits the admission of non-Islamic children in Islamic madrasas.
The complaint further alleges that the racket may be receiving illegal foreign funding and could have links to anti-national elements. Despite these allegations being raised over a year ago, no effective government action has reportedly been taken to address the issue.
Seeking NHRC’s intervention, the complainant has requested the registration of a First Information Report (FIR), immediate rescue of the affected children, and action against the operators of these unauthorized madrasas. Additionally, the complaint calls for a multi-agency investigation to dismantle the alleged illegal conversion network entirely.
The NHRC’s directive aims to ensure strict adherence to the law and safeguard the rights and welfare of children in Madhya Pradesh. The Commission’s report will be closely monitored to ensure that appropriate measures are implemented promptly.
