Delhi-NCR experienced sudden and heavy rainfall on Tuesday, marking a significant weather shift after weeks of dry heat. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecasted the downpour, which has now led to disruptions in daily life and flight operations at Delhi Airport.
**Flight Disruptions and Airline Advisories**
Major airlines including IndiGo, Air India, SpiceJet, and Akasa Air have issued travel advisories due to the inclement weather. IndiGo informed passengers about possible flight delays and urged travelers to check their flight status via the airline’s app or website before heading to the airport. The airline stated, “There’s a heavy downpour over Delhi at the moment, causing some temporary disruption to flight schedules.”
Air India similarly warned of potential impacts on its flight operations and advised passengers to verify flight details ahead of time.
SpiceJet announced that all departures, arrivals, and connecting flights may experience delays or cancellations due to the weather at Delhi Airport.
Akasa Air highlighted additional concerns regarding slow-moving traffic congestion on roads leading to the airport, recommending passengers to allow extra travel time to ensure a smooth journey. The airline expressed understanding regarding any inconvenience caused by the situation.
**IMD Upgrades Rain Alert to ‘Orange’**
Following the intense downpour, the IMD elevated its rain alert from ‘yellow’ to ‘orange.’ This indicates the likelihood of moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h in the coming hours.
The maximum temperature in Delhi is forecasted to reach approximately 35°C, while the minimum was recorded at 28.7°C—5.4 degrees above normal. The relative humidity stood at 74% as of 8:30 AM.
**Traffic Advisory Amidst Prime Minister’s Visit and Festivities**
The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a cautionary advisory due to expected road congestion during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Durga Puja pandal at CR Park’s Kali Mandir on Maha Ashtami.
The police highlighted the anticipated heavy footfall at Durga Puja pandals, which is likely to cause traffic jams on several roads, including Outer Ring Road and Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg. Commuters are advised to plan their routes accordingly and expect delays.
