Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat has voiced his opinion on the recent tariff policy imposed by the United States on Indian goods. Speaking at the Vijayadashami event in Nagpur, Bhagwat remarked that the new US tariff measures were “done keeping in mind the interest of their own.”
He emphasized that while global interdependence is an undeniable reality, it should not become a compulsion. “We must move towards swadeshi and self-reliance; there is no alternative. Our harmony must be our own,” he stated, highlighting the importance of self-sufficiency for India’s future.
**Regional Stability: Concerns Over Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh**
Bhagwat also addressed recent unrest in India’s neighboring countries, including Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. He cautioned that such turmoil often opens the door to foreign interference. According to him, violent uprisings result only in anarchy.
“There are forces, both inside and outside our country, that want to create disturbance in Bharat. Democratic movements bring change; violent uprisings don’t,” he said, referencing historical revolutions. “France rose against its king and Napoleon became emperor. So many so-called socialist movements happened—now, these socialist countries are capitalist,” he added.
**National Harmony: Response to the Recent Attack in Pahalgam**
Addressing India’s diverse social fabric, the RSS chief underscored the need to embrace differences within the framework of law and order. He condemned the provocation of communities and stressed the importance of fair administration.
“The administration must act fairly, but the youth must also stay alert and intervene if needed. The grammar of anarchy needs to be stopped,” he urged, further emphasizing that an ‘us’ versus ‘them’ mentality is “not acceptable” in a united India.
**Economic Focus: aligning with Modi’s Push for Swadeshi**
Mohan Bhagwat’s remarks align closely with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ongoing advocacy for promoting swadeshi products. Modi has repeatedly encouraged Indians to become self-reliant and reduce dependence on foreign-made goods.
“Often, we don’t even know if the comb in our pocket is made in India or abroad. We should buy products that are Made in India, crafted through the hard work of our country’s youth, products that carry the sweat of our sons and daughters,” Modi had said in one of his recent speeches.
By reinforcing the importance of self-reliance and national unity, both leaders aim to strengthen India’s economic and social fabric amid global uncertainties and challenges.
