A salvage crew has recovered over 1,000 silver coins, five gold coins, and rare gold artifacts worth USD 1 million from the 1715 Spanish Treasure Fleet shipwreck off Florida’s Treasure Coast. This remarkable find comes more than 300 years after a hurricane sank the fleet.
The discovery offers a rare glimpse into colonial-era maritime history. Many of the coins display visible dates and mint marks, providing valuable insight into the period. After undergoing conservation, these treasures will be displayed in local museums, enriching public heritage and offering educational opportunities to visitors.
