**Fashion Show Audition in Dehradun Disrupted by Hindu Organisation over Attire Objections**
Rishikesh, Uttarakhand: A fashion show audition held at a hotel in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, was disrupted recently by members of a Hindu organisation, leading to a heated exchange between the group and one of the models present at the venue.
The incident unfolded when members of the Hindu Raksha Sangathan arrived during the auditions, objecting to the participants wearing Western attire. The organisation demanded an immediate halt to the event, claiming that the fashion show was against Indian culture and traditions.
A video of the confrontation has since gone viral on social media. In it, a courageous model is seen standing up to the group’s demands. She firmly told the members that they had no authority to stop the show and urged them to focus instead on closing down cigarette and liquor shops, rather than interfering with fashion auditions. The model also mentioned that all participants had their parents’ permission to attend the event.
Despite the members’ insistence that the models sitting on a sofa at the venue should leave, the women refused to comply and asserted their determination to continue with the show. One of the models poignantly stated, “You can’t break someone’s passion.”
The protesting member responded by saying, “This is not our culture,” and claimed that wearing short dresses was against Indian traditions. The model challenged him, asking, “Who are you to say this?”
Event organisers supported the models, clarifying that neither the participants nor their parents had any objections to the event. They questioned who the protesters were to interrupt the auditions.
As tensions escalated and a scene was created at the venue, the organisers contacted the police. Authorities arrived promptly to defuse the situation and restore order.
According to reports from Bhaskar Digital, the Hindu Raksha Sangathan justified their protest by stating that Rishikesh is a holy city, and allowing young women to walk the ramp in short dresses is an insult to local traditions. However, the hosting club dismissed these claims, describing the event simply as an audition for a fashion show.
This incident highlights ongoing cultural debates around self-expression, tradition, and modernity in the region.
