The Indian Navy is set to commission *Androth*, the second Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), at a special ceremony on October 6, 2025, at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam, an official statement said on Sunday.

The event will be led by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command, it added.

*Androth* has been built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) in Kolkata and marks a major step forward in India’s efforts to build its own defence equipment. The ship is more than 80 percent made in India, demonstrating strong progress towards self-reliance in defence, also known as Aatmanirbharta.

This new ship will significantly boost the Indian Navy’s ability to detect and combat enemy submarines, especially in shallow and coastal waters. It also underscores the Navy’s focus on adopting new technologies and strengthening Indian-made solutions.

The induction of *Androth* follows the recent addition of other modern ships such as *Arnala*, *Nistar*, *Udaygiri*, and *Nilgiri*. Together, these vessels reflect the Navy’s balanced growth across different types of naval operations and highlight India’s robust shipbuilding industry.

With *Androth*, the Indian Navy continues to advance its goals of indigenisation, innovation, and enhanced defence capability at sea, the statement concluded.
