**Move Gaza Talks Fast or ‘Massive Bloodshed Will Follow,’ Warns Trump**

United States President Donald Trump has urged negotiators to “move fast” ahead of the upcoming peace talks for Gaza, warning that “massive bloodshed will follow” if progress is not made quickly.
The talks, set to take place in Egypt on Monday, will bring together representatives from Israel and Hamas. The Israeli delegation will be led by Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, while US envoy Steve Witkoff is also expected to participate in the discussions.
**Hostage Release and Negotiation Challenges**
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed hope that an announcement regarding the release of hostages held in Gaza will come “in the coming days.” Hamas has similarly declared its intention to return all remaining hostages, both alive and deceased.
The first phase of Trump’s peace plan centers on exchanging hostages for Palestinian prisoners. However, more complex issues such as the disarmament and demobilization of Hamas remain significant sticking points that are likely to complicate future negotiations.
**Growing Global Support for an Immediate Ceasefire**
International backing for an immediate ceasefire is gaining momentum. Pope Leo has called for a permanent ceasefire, and foreign ministers from eight Muslim-majority countries have urged all parties to engage in negotiations to end hostilities.
While some bombings have reportedly ceased, Israeli government spokeswoman Shosh Bedrosian confirmed that no formal ceasefire is yet in place. Conflict continues, with strikes over the weekend killing at least eight people on Sunday alone.
**Ongoing Conflict and Military Operations**
Currently, the Israeli military controls approximately 80% of the Gaza enclave, which it describes as a “dangerous combat zone.” The initial phase of the peace plan focuses on hostage release before progressing to further issues.
According to a Palestinian official close to the talks, the success of the Cairo discussions will depend heavily on whether Hamas agrees to the withdrawal plan proposed by Washington.
**Phased Withdrawal Plan**
If the peace proposal follows the boundaries outlined in Trump’s map, the first Israeli withdrawal would leave Gaza about 55% occupied. A second phase of withdrawal would reduce this occupation to approximately 40%. After the final phase, Israeli forces would occupy roughly 15% of Gaza, designated as a “security buffer zone.”
This phased withdrawal, along with proposals for an international group to oversee Gaza, is expected to be particularly challenging. Senator Marco Rubio noted that these issues will be “a little more tough to work through” as negotiations advance.
