A day after a 55-year-old developer was reported to have been ‘kidnapped’ by four individuals from Versova, he was found safe in a rehabilitation centre in Vasai on Monday.
According to the FIR filed with the Vile Parle police, the developer, identified as Bhunu, resides at Char Bungalow with his second wife and three children. Following an investigation, the police discovered that Bhunu’s first wife, Chandraprabha, 50, had admitted him to the facility for treatment of alcohol addiction. The four men involved were employees of the rehab centre.
The incident began when Bhunu’s second wife, Afsana Arab, 36, lodged a kidnapping complaint. She stated that around 12:30 am on October 5, four men arrived at their Char Bungalow residence claiming, “Saheb has called you.” When Bhunu asked for more details, the men refused to answer and allegedly forced him into a white car.
Shortly afterward, Afsana received a call from her husband informing her that he was being taken to Vasai. His phone was switched off after the call, prompting her to approach the police.
The police registered a case under Sections 140(3) (kidnapping or abduction) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Further investigation by the Versova police traced Bhunu to the rehabilitation centre and revealed that his first wife had arranged his admission due to his struggle with alcoholism.
