In a thrilling encounter at the ICC Women’s World Cup (CWC) 2025, Australia’s all-rounder Annabel Sutherland delivered a match-winning bowling performance against India, claiming her maiden five-wicket haul in Women’s One Day Internationals (WODIs). Her exceptional spell helped Australia restrict India to 330 all out in 48.5 overs, despite a challenging start with the ball.

### Sutherland Breaks Indian Opening Partnership

Batting first, India got off to a flying start, thanks to their openers Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal, who put together a massive 155-run partnership. Mandhana scored a commanding 80, while Rawal surpassed her maiden World Cup half-century with a well-crafted 75.

The breakthrough came when Sutherland dismissed Pratika Rawal with a sharp short ball that was safely pouched by Ellyse Perry at deep square leg, ending the dangerous opening stand and shifting momentum towards Australia.

### Late Wickets Turn the Tide

As India edged closer to the 300-mark, Sutherland struck again, picking up crucial wickets to dismantle the middle and lower order. She quickly removed Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh (32 runs), with Rodrigues caught by Beth Mooney at mid-on after a rapid 33 off 21 balls.

Sutherland completed her five-wicket haul by cleaning up Kranti Gaud and Shree Charani, turning the innings from 294/4 to 330 all out within just a few deliveries. Her final bowling figures read an impressive 5/40 from 9.5 overs.

### Milestones and Stats

With this performance, Sutherland surpassed the 50-wicket milestone in WODIs, now boasting 53 wickets from 45 matches at an average of 20.60 and an economy rate of 4.55. She has been especially effective against India, taking 22 wickets in 10 games at an average of 15.63.

Her World Cup tally has risen to 13 wickets at an excellent average of 15.15. According to Cricbuzz, Sutherland is now the third Australian bowler to achieve a five-wicket haul in a Women’s World Cup match, joining Tina Macpherson and Lyn Fullston (who achieved the feat twice).

Despite her efforts, Australia conceded over 300 runs for the first time in a Women’s World Cup match.

### Sophie Molineux’s Three-Wicket Contribution

Alongside Sutherland, left-arm spinner Sophie Molineux also made an impact despite going for 75 runs in her 10 overs. Molineux picked up three wickets, bringing her career tally to 29 wickets from 15 WODIs at an average of 14.86. Against India, she has taken nine wickets at an average of 28.33.

Annabel Sutherland’s standout bowling display proved crucial in disrupting India’s strong batting lineup, giving Australia a significant boost in this high-voltage World Cup clash.
