World number 204, Valentin Vacherot, expressed that he was in shock on Sunday after defeating his cousin Arthur Rinderknech 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 to win the Shanghai Masters. With this victory, Vacherot became the lowest-ranked player ever to win an ATP 1000 tournament.

The unlikely all-family final featured the 54th-ranked Frenchman Rinderknech and Vacherot, who hails from Monaco. The match was described by Vacherot’s coach as a remarkable and emotional encounter between two close relatives competing at the highest level of the sport.
