The incident took place at the Oya History Museum, a former quarry registered as a Japan Heritage site. The museum offers a free parking lot open to the public to help ease visitor costs.
According to museum director Yasutoshi Okubo, reckless drifting occurred on the premises for about 15 minutes, causing severe damage to the pavement. The repair is expected to require resurfacing at an estimated cost of between 2 million and 3 million yen.
Okubo also noted that the site has experienced repeated cases of drifting and littering, largely due to its secluded location. He warned that if vandalism continues, the museum may be forced to install fences or introduce paid parking to protect the area.
Following the incident, the police were consulted and have increased patrols around the museum to prevent further dangerous behavior.
