Several groups are vocally pushing back against the recently announced acquisition of Electronic Arts, which would see a collective of groups including Jared Kushner’s company and the Saudi-PIF take over ownership of the publisher and developer. In Congress, Senators Elizabeth Warren and Richard Blumenthal published a letter to Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent sharing concerns of foreign influence and security risks about the would-be owners involved in the deal. Meanwhile, the United Videogame Workers-CWA union has also issued a statement of concern about the deal, speaking to risks of layoffs of employees and closure of studios that might be deemed unprofitable under new ownership. The CWA laid out its main concern about workers being in no way involved in the decision for EA’s deal while their careers are, nonetheless, put at risk: Meanwhile, Senators Warren and Blumenthal expanded on their reservations about the issues of handing a massive, multimillion American company over to partial Saudi Arabian ownership. EA announced its upcoming acquisition by a group of investors at the end of September 2025. The group buying is composed of several entities that include Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake, and Jared Kushner’s Affinity Partners. In the time since the announcement, there have been a number of concerns about the future of EA. BioWare employees believe it may only be a matter of time before the studio faces closure if the deal goes through. Meanwhile, fans find themselves wondering if games like NHL, EA College Football, and Madden will face priority shifts following transfer of ownership to a global owner.
