The Philadelphia Eagles have lost two games just five days apart. Following their Thursday night upset loss against the New York Giants, the Eagles had extra time to prepare for their Week 7 visit to Minnesota. The overriding question now is whether the Philly offense will perform any better as the team tries to avoid losing three consecutive games.
Through six weeks, the Eagles are averaging just 275.4 yards per game on offense, ranking 30th in the league—only ahead of the Cincinnati Bengals and the Tennessee Titans. Interestingly, Cincinnati’s 470-yard performance on Thursday night bumped their average from 268.7 to 297.5 yards per game, dropping Philly to 31st in per-game offensive yards.
This is also the lowest offensive output for a defending Super Bowl champion since 1987, when the New York Giants started 1-5 in a season that included three games with replacement players.
So, what do the Eagles need to do?
That same question was echoed by Hall of Fame coach Tony Dungy before the Thursday night loss to the Giants. “Some games, we’re a run-first team,” said running back Miles Sanders. “Some games might be airing it out. We just have to get back to the conversation of what winning football is supposed to be.”
Quarterback Jalen Hurts added, “That’s the Eagles having more points than the other team in the end. I feel like we’ve lost sight of that. The city’s lost sight of that. We have to get back to that.”
The team acknowledges there are many things to fix. “I felt better being 4-0 rather than when we lost two in a row,” Sanders reflected.
The offense hasn’t looked great in any game this season. There have been brief spurts—like the second half against the Rams, the first half against the Buccaneers, and the first half and opening drive of the third quarter against the Broncos—but overall, the production has been far from ideal.
Hurts, who had an impressive 2,283 total yards in 2024 (averaging 142.7 yards per game), has yet to generate more than 100 yards from scrimmage in any single game this season. Likewise, the quarterback has now gone 22 straight starts—including playoffs—without throwing for 300 or more passing yards in a game.
As the Eagles prepare for their next challenge, fans and analysts alike are hoping the offense can find its footing and return to the winning form of a Super Bowl champion.
