As the cold weather blows in, seasonal sweet treats proliferate, and the back-to-school germ exchange picks up speed, autumn is a great season to welcome a little extra support for your health. To help you get ahead of it all, the Spokane Public Library and Washington State University Health Sciences Spokane have collaborated to bring the community a free fall health fair.

**Event Details**
Join us on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Shadle Park Library to take advantage of a variety of free services and resources designed to support your well-being.

Juan Juan Moses, Spokane Public Library community educator, shared, “My collaboration with WSU School of Medicine started in 2019 when we first became the platform of practicum for the College of Nutrition and Exercise. From there, we worked with the student association to put on this fair. I think this is the fourth year.”

**What to Expect at the Health Fair**

– **Vaccinations and Health Screenings:**
WSU pharmacy students, along with the National Community Pharmacist Association and American Pharmacists Association, will be on-site offering vaccinations, blood glucose testing, diabetes management resources, and medication counseling.
Range Community Health Clinic will also provide flu vaccinations; please bring a valid health insurance card for billing.

– **Brain Games and Fire Safety:**
Representatives from the Gonzaga neuroscience department will offer activities to engage and challenge your brain.
The Spokane Fire Department will share fire alarm education, a timely reminder as many of us start using space heaters and holiday candles. They’ll also have a fire truck on site to delight both youngsters and the young at heart.

– **Hearing Screenings:**
The National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association will present information on hearing loss and offer preliminary hearing screenings using tuning forks—not to test musical pitch, but to assess your hearing ability.

– **Radon Testing and Education:**
The NCPA and Health Equity Circle will provide radon testing kits and general education on the dangers of concentrated radon exposure. Radon is an odorless, invisible, naturally occurring radioactive gas produced by the decay of uranium and radium in soils beneath your home. While this process is natural, radon can become concentrated inside structures, posing a health risk. Testing kits can help you measure radon levels and determine if you need to improve your home’s ventilation or insulation.

– **HIV Prevention and Education:**
The Department of Health and AIDS Education and Training Center (AETC) will be on-site, represented by University of Washington clinical outreach and continuing education coordinator Carrie Van Ness. The AETC focuses on educating and training healthcare professionals to improve the quality of HIV prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

– **Native American Health Resources:**
The WSU Center for Native American Health, a division of WSU dedicated to improving health outcomes for Washington state tribes, will provide information about resources available to Indigenous students and community members.

**Additional Information**
Spanish translation services will be available for attendants.

Juan Juan Moses added, “We are just thrilled to be able to connect the community and the students. I love being the connector. Obviously, the students need a very public outreach platform, and our community will benefit from their knowledge. So, it’s a win-win for everybody.”
