This 1975 Peugeot 504 GLD served as a demonstration vehicle at European Imports in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, before being sold to its first owner in March 1976. It is said to have remained with the same family until 2007. The car spent a number of years in storage prior to being acquired by the current seller in 2010.
Powering this classic is a 2.1-liter diesel inline-four engine linked to a four-speed manual transmission. The 2,112cc XD90 diesel features Bosch mechanical fuel injection and was factory rated at 65 horsepower and 87.5 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels, providing a traditional driving experience.
Designed by Pininfarina, the Peugeot 504 made its debut at the 1968 Paris Salon. It remained in production in Europe until 1983 and continued to be produced in other global facilities as a knock-down kit until 2006. This particular model is finished in gold and sports US-specification lighting and impact bumpers, along with a distinctive rampant-lion emblem on the grille.
The exterior features protective side moldings, steel 14” wheels with stainless-steel hubcaps, and 185-series Michelin XZX tires. The car rides on a fully independent suspension, while braking is managed by power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes. Areas of rust are noted on the left-rear door and inside the trunk; paint chips and other imperfections can be seen in the accompanying image gallery. Corrosion is also visible on underbody components.
Inside, the cabin offers tan upholstery with front bucket seats and a rear bench, complemented by color-coordinated door panel inserts and carpets. The car is equipped with air conditioning, cruise control, a sliding sunroof, and a Panasonic AM/FM radio (which the seller notes is not functional). Wear on the upholstery is visible in the gallery images.
The four-spoke steering wheel frames Jaeger instrumentation, including a 130-mph speedometer, a combination gauge, and a clock. The five-digit odometer has rolled over twice and currently shows approximately 15,000 miles, with about 5,000 of those miles added under current ownership.
This Peugeot 504 GLD is now offered at no reserve in Washington. It comes complete with original literature, workshop manuals, a logbook containing handwritten notes documenting usage through May 1988, and the manufacturer’s toolkit. The car has a clean Idaho title in the seller’s name.
This well-preserved example of the iconic Peugeot 504 offers a unique blend of classic European design, diesel economy, and a host of comfort features, representing an excellent opportunity for enthusiasts and collectors alike.
