A defiant Curtis Sliwa forcefully rejected the growing calls for him to end his bid for New York City mayor.
“So, let’s be very clear: I am not dropping out, under no circumstances,” the GOP nominee for mayor said at a press conference Tuesday morning. “I’ve already been offered money to drop out, I said no.”
The comments come a day after his boss and influential Republican, John Catsimatidis, issued a public plea for Sliwa to drop out of the race and unite behind Andrew Cuomo.
For months, the crowded field of mayoral hopefuls has been called on to coalesce behind a single candidate in an attempt to prevent proud socialist Zohran Mamdani from winning City Hall. But the urging from Catsimatidis moved the pressure campaign to a new level, with the billionaire grocery store owner also bankrolling Sliwa’s day job as a shock jock on WABC.
Sliwa, though, continues to have the backing of other Republican bigwigs, including Catsimatidis’ daughter Andrea, who chairs the New York GOP committee.
“Republicans across every borough stand united behind Curtis Sliwa for Mayor of New York City,” said the county chairs in a joint statement. “Republican voters are not going to vote for Andrew Cuomo.
“Curtis Sliwa is our candidate, the credible leader who will defeat the radical left and restore safety, affordability, and common sense to City Hall. He is our candidate to defeat Zohran Mamdani on November 4th.”
