Fans continue to show their disdain towards Nico Harrison, especially after the Dallas Mavericks suffered a 117-107 upset loss to the Washington Wizards on Friday night. Harrison found himself at the center of controversy following his bold trade move in February, sending franchise cornerstone Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a first-round pick.
The trade sent shockwaves throughout the league. While it sparked excitement among Lakers fans, Mavericks supporters were left upset and in shock. Although Dallas acquired talented players in Davis and Christie, injuries hampered the team’s trajectory last season. The Mavericks reached the play-in tournament but ultimately fell short of securing a playoff spot, ending the campaign amidst heated debate.
This past summer, Dallas made a splash by winning the first pick in the NBA Draft, selecting college star Cooper Flagg. Despite adding Davis and Flagg to the roster, the Mavericks have struggled out of the gate once again. Their woes were highlighted in a recent blowout home loss to the San Antonio Spurs, led by rising star Victor Wembanyama. While that defeat was tough, it was somewhat understandable given the Spurs’ talent.
However, the frustration intensified after the Mavericks lost to a Wizards squad that was one of the NBA’s worst last season. The home loss to Washington sparked renewed “Fire Nico” chants from the fanbase, as reported by ESPN’s Tim MacMahon. “’Fire Nico!’ chants are going strong with Mavs down double digits at home in the final minute against the Wizards,” MacMahon tweeted.
### How the Mavericks Played Against the Wizards
There will be plenty of self-reflection for Nico Harrison, Anthony Davis, Cooper Flagg, and the entire Mavericks organization following the embarrassing home defeat against the Wizards.
Dallas started strong, taking a 35-28 lead after the first quarter. However, they regressed significantly in the second period, being outscored 30-17 by Washington. The Mavericks were unable to recover, and their late rally fell short as the Wizards held on for the win.
Three Mavericks players scored in double digits: Anthony Davis, Cooper Flagg, and PJ Washington. Davis led the team with 27 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocks. He shot 9-of-19 from the field and 9-of-12 from the free-throw line. Flagg contributed 18 points and six assists, while Washington added 18 points and nine rebounds. Max Christie and Jaden Hardy each chipped in nine points.
The Mavericks remain in search of their first win of the season. They will stay at home for their next game, hosting the Toronto Raptors on October 26 at 7:30 p.m. ET. Fans will be hoping for a turnaround as Dallas looks to build momentum moving forward.
