There are many reasons to prefer Apple Maps over the vastly more popular Google Maps. However, reportedly, the lure of advertising revenue has finally influenced Apple’s decision to remove one of those advantages.
For at least three years, Apple has been said to be considering—and then actively investigating—the addition of ads to Apple Maps. Each time, the primary source for these rumors has been Bloomberg. Now, the publication is back with an update.
The most recent report claims that Apple has decided to move forward with the project. Starting as early as 2026, Apple will reportedly allow businesses to pay for enhanced visibility of their listings within Apple Maps.
This change marks a significant shift for Apple Maps, which has so far maintained an ad-free experience for users.
