The US government has reportedly finalized a major deal with leading tech company AMD. The US Department of Energy and AMD have agreed to a $1 billion contract for the development of two advanced supercomputers over the next few years.
According to a report by Reuters, which cited statements from AMD and CEO Dr. Lisa Su, the collaboration marks a significant investment in cutting-edge technology. Energy Secretary Chris Wright also weighed in on the announcement, highlighting the strategic importance of the project.
The first of the two supercomputers is expected to be completed by 2029. Once operational, it will support key government initiatives, including the management of the US nuclear arsenal and advancing medical research, particularly in the fight against cancer.
Secretary Wright emphasized that this partnership with AMD will accelerate technological growth in the United States once the systems are implemented, strengthening the nation’s capabilities across multiple sectors.
