The US government has reportedly secured a major new deal with leading tech company AMD. The US Department of Energy (DOE) and AMD have agreed to a $1 billion contract that will see AMD build two advanced supercomputers for the federal department over the next few years.

According to a report by Reuters, which cited a statement from AMD and CEO Dr. Lisa Su, the first of the two supercomputers is expected to be completed by 2029. These cutting-edge machines will support a variety of critical government initiatives, including the management of the US nuclear arsenal and driving breakthroughs in medical research, particularly in cancer science.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright expressed optimism about the partnership, stating that the collaboration with AMD will accelerate technological growth across the United States once the supercomputers are operational.

This significant investment highlights the ongoing commitment of the US government to advance scientific research and national security through state-of-the-art computing technology.
