Tensions flared on Sunday after the Carolina Panthers suffered a heavy 40-9 defeat against the Buffalo Bills at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.
In footage circulating on social media, Bills offensive tackle Dion Dawkins and Panthers defensive tackle A’Shawn Robinson were seen getting into a heated exchange on the field. The situation quickly escalated, with players from both teams stepping in to de-escalate the tension as shoving ensued.
The altercation intensified when Dawkins, 31, appeared to toss a hat in Robinson’s direction. Robinson, 30, was held back by Carolina defensive tackle Derrick Brown as he exclaimed, “Get off me, get off me!” Brown calmly responded, “It’s me,” while guiding his teammate away from the confrontation.
ESPN’s Kimberley A. Martin shared a video capturing the moment and later provided additional context after asking Dawkins about the high emotions between him and Robinson. Dawkins reportedly looked up at the scoreboard and said, “40-9,” explaining that he had been trying to shake hands postgame before the chaos unfolded.
Following the game, the Bills, who improved to 5-2 with the victory, took to social media but did not directly address the scuffle. Dawkins tweeted about the “great atmosphere” in Carolina, writing:
“Great atmosphere down in Carolina, Felt like a home game on the road #BillsMafia For the Win #YouAlreadyShnow.”
Looking ahead, the Bills will return to Western New York next weekend for a highly anticipated matchup against the surging Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs, winners of two straight games entering Monday night’s home contest against the Washington Commanders, will face Buffalo in what promises to be an exciting AFC showdown. The Bills defeated the Chiefs 30-21 in their regular season meeting last November, but Kansas City gained revenge with a 32-29 win in the AFC Championship rematch earlier this year. The Chiefs subsequently lost to the Eagles in the Super Bowl, 40-22.
As for the Panthers, now with a 4-4 record, they will take advantage of their bye week before returning to action on November 2 against the Green Bay Packers.
