The US government has reportedly made another major deal with a leading tech company, this time with AMD. The US Department of Energy and AMD have agreed on a $1 billion contract for the construction of two advanced supercomputers over the coming years.
According to a report by Reuters, which cited a statement from AMD and CEO Dr. Lisa Su, the partnership aims to bolster the Department of Energy’s technological capabilities. Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Dr. Su revealed that the first of the two supercomputers is expected to be completed by 2029.
Once operational, these powerful machines will assist the US government in a variety of critical endeavors. These include the management of the US nuclear arsenal as well as driving breakthroughs in medical research, particularly in the fight against cancer.
Secretary Wright emphasized that the collaboration with AMD will accelerate technological growth across the United States once the supercomputers are implemented.
This development marks another significant step in the government’s ongoing efforts to leverage cutting-edge technology for national security and scientific advancement.
