This week marks a pivotal moment for Embark Studios with the launch of ARC Raiders. As a new IP and a third-person extraction shooter, the game is set to release tomorrow, precariously situated between the highly anticipated launches of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Battlefield 6.
Söderlund shared his thoughts on the timing in an interview with The Game Business, as reported by Eurogamer. He expressed that he doesn’t believe there will ever be a “good” or “bad” time for ARC Raiders to come out. Regardless of any criticism about the release timing, Söderlund emphasized that the most important thing is that the game simply launches.
There are valid arguments on both sides. Söderlund is likely familiar with this dilemma from his time as CEO of DICE, when Titanfall 2 launched between Battlefield One and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Many agree that this timing affected the level of attention the otherwise stellar FPS received during its lifetime.
However, there is also an argument to be made that ARC Raiders is quite different from Call of Duty and Battlefield, and therefore might not have to compete as directly with them as Titanfall did. This distinction could work in ARC Raiders’ favor as it enters a crowded market.
