The Los Angeles Dodgers need to win Game 6 against the Toronto Blue Jays to keep their hopes alive for a second consecutive World Series title.
Two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani has had two quiet games for the Dodgers following his historic Game 4 performance, where he reached base nine times, including two home runs. However, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts made a bold statement on Thursday, saying the three-time MVP is open to playing multiple roles for the team, including playing in the outfield.
“Everything is on the table for Shohei Ohtani in a potential Game 7,” Roberts said. “That includes being a closer, an opener, playing the outfield — everything.”
### Fan Reactions
Fans quickly reacted to Roberts’ comments, reminding the Dodgers skipper that the team needs to focus on winning Game 6, with Yoshinobu Yamamoto expected to pitch for Toronto, before thinking about a Game 7.
One fan tweeted, “Feel like almost everyone is expecting Game #7. It’s a little disrespectful for Toronto and their ability to adjust to pitchers. I don’t think it’s automatic at all.”
Others chimed in with remarks like, “Can’t be worse than Teoscar out there in right,” and, “Uhh. Does Dave Roberts know he HAS to win Game 6 first? And does he know George Springer is playing?”
Another added, “Why even talk about Game 7?! This series is over tomorrow unless Yamamoto pitches a complete game shutout. Unfortunately, he’s due for a bad game after two stellar performances.”
And one fan summed it up bluntly: “This guy can’t count. You can’t jump to Game 7 without winning Game 6.”
### Shohei Ohtani’s World Series Performance
Ohtani made his first World Series start after taking the mound against the Blue Jays in Game 4. Coming off a dominant performance where he shut down the Milwaukee Brewers in NLCS Game 4, Ohtani conceded four earned runs on six hits with six strikeouts in the World Series.
Despite his recent quiet games, Ohtani hasn’t received much support from the Dodgers’ star-studded lineup. One of the glaring issues has been former MVP Mookie Betts’ slump this postseason. The All-Star slugger is batting just .164 in his last 13 games in October.
### Dodgers Manager’s Message to Mookie Betts
Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts offered blunt advice to the 33-year-old Betts ahead of Game 6.
“Focus on one game, and be good for one game,” Roberts said. “Go out there and compete.”
Betts has gone 2-for-16 in the last three World Series games and will need to step up as the Dodgers’ offense continues to struggle against Toronto’s rotation.
The focus now turns to Game 6 — the Dodgers’ last chance to stay alive in the World Series and force a decisive Game 7.
