In a recent speech, former President Donald Trump claimed that Toyota would invest $10 billion in the United States. However, Toyota has since issued a clarification, stating that no exact investment figure of that magnitude was mentioned. The company emphasized that it will continue to invest and provide employment in America.
On Wednesday, October 29, Reuters reported that Toyota did not “explicitly promise” a $10 billion investment in the U.S. This clarification came from Toyota executive Hiroyuki Ueda, who refuted President Trump’s claim that Toyota would spend this amount building “new car plants” in “numerous states, about six or seven different states.”
Ueda explained, “While we didn’t say the same scale, we did explain that we’ll keep investing and providing employment as before.”
Trump made his remarks during a speech in South Korea. According to a transcript provided by Mediaite, Trump said, “I met with Mr. Toyota in Japan, and he just announced he is going to spend — they are going to spend $10 billion.”
