Wizards of the Coast recently rolled out two exciting new sets for Dungeons & Dragons: the Starter Set and *Stranger Things: Welcome to the Hellfire Club*. I had the opportunity to review both during the latest episode of *Pop! Goes the Culture!*.
The Starter Set is designed to make D&D more accessible than ever before. It essentially transforms the game into a conventional tabletop experience with a much lower barrier to entry. This is achieved through the inclusion of pre-made characters, cards for common spells and items, and multiple maps, all of which help new players jump right in without feeling overwhelmed.
*Stranger Things: Welcome to the Hellfire Club* takes a similar approach but adds a unique twist with its Stranger Things theme. More specifically, it embraces an ’80s vibe that fans of the show and the era will appreciate. This set includes character sheets based on the characters from the Netflix series, as well as a map inspired by the world of their campaign.
Additionally, new monsters have been introduced, such as the Demogorgon Dragon, bringing fresh challenges to the table. The entire set is presented with a vintage ’80s aesthetic, giving Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition a nostalgic, retro feel.
