The Toronto Blue Jays have a shot at history on the line this Saturday night as they face the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 7 of the World Series. The game, which can be seen on FOX at 8 p.m. ET, could mark the culmination of an epic turnaround for Toronto.
The Blue Jays finished last in the American League East division during the 2024 season with a 74-88 record and failed to make the playoffs. This season, however, Toronto claimed the division title for the first time since 2015 and now has a chance to join an exclusive club with a World Series victory.
According to MLB Network, Toronto could become just the third team to go from last place in their division one year to World Series champions the next. The 1991 Minnesota Twins finished last in the AL West in 1990 before Jack Morris’ heroic Game 7 performance clinched the World Series title over the Atlanta Braves. Likewise, the 2012 Boston Red Sox ended the season in last place in the AL East before defeating the St. Louis Cardinals in six games to win the 2013 World Series.
The Blue Jays are aiming to celebrate their first World Series championship since 1993 with a win over the Dodgers.
Pitching matchups for this pivotal Game 7 feature Max Scherzer, who could be making the final start of his illustrious career for Toronto, facing off against the Dodgers’ ace Shohei Ohtani. Toronto lost Game 6 by a score of 3-1, with the Dodgers executing a crucial double play to end the game in the bottom of the ninth inning despite a strong Blue Jays’ threat.
This season, Scherzer compiled a 5-5 record with a 5.19 ERA over 17 starts.
