Cal Poly dominated the Big West Championships in cross country on Friday at Kapiolani Park, showcasing a strong team performance. The Mustangs secured three of the top five individual spots and five of the top eleven, easily running away with the title.
Host team Hawaii finished ninth out of eleven teams in its final Big West season before transitioning to the Mountain West Conference. Emilie Kirk Langschwager was the first Rainbow Wahine to complete the 6-kilometer race, crossing the finish line 25th with a time of 22 minutes, 16.2 seconds.
The top individual finisher of the race was Sylvana Northrop of UC San Diego, who finished in 20:42.1. She was closely followed by Cal Poly’s Nicole Bridges (20:49.5) and Kelli Gaffney (20:58.3).
Cal Poly’s strong showing earned them 31 points, leaving the Mustangs well ahead of second-place UC Irvine, who scored 75 points, and third-place UC San Diego, with 82 points. Hawaii rounded out the standings with 224 points.
