Minecraft, the best-selling video game of all time, has reached a new milestone of 350 million units sold lifetime as of April 2025. This milestone was confirmed in a post on the Guinness World Records website.
The sales figure marks a significant increase, up from 300 million units sold as of October 2023, and 238 million units sold as of April 2021, according to Mojang’s official records.
“The best-selling videogame of all time is the literal blockbusting sandbox Minecraft (Mojang, 2011),” reads the Guinness World Records post. “This seemingly-basic block-buster, led by a now-iconic blue-t-shirted skin named Steve, has sold over 350 million units, as confirmed by the developers Mojang in the official Minecraft Annual 2026, listed in April 2025.”
Minecraft began as a free-to-play alpha version in May 2009 before its official 1.0 launch in November 2011. It became the first video game to surpass 300 million sales on October 15, 2023.
Since its initial public release, Minecraft has been launched on nearly every major gaming platform. These include:
– PC, iOS, and Android (2011)
– Xbox 360 (2012)
– PlayStation 3 (2013)
– PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PlayStation Vita (2014)
– Wii U (2015)
– Nintendo Switch (May 2017)
– New Nintendo 3DS (September 2017)
– PlayStation 5 (October 2024)
– Xbox Series X|S (June 2025)
This broad platform availability has helped Minecraft maintain its popularity across multiple generations of gamers.
