**“The Life of a Showgirl” Is Coming to an End**
Taylor Swift’s latest album, *Showgirl*, lived fast and died young. After an impressive debut, selling 4 million copies including streaming units in its first week, the album’s numbers have rapidly declined.
Although *Showgirl* remains at number 1 this week, it sold only 21,751 physical copies—including CDs, LPs, cassettes—and paid downloads. The remaining 143,275 equivalent sales came from streaming. However, even that momentum is fading as Swift’s songs have been temporarily replaced by Halloween records. The 1960s classic “Monster Mash” currently holds the number 1 spot on the charts, while Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” is topping iTunes.
Swift’s marketing team is unlikely to settle for these results, but they have effectively sold all the physical products to fans who wanted them. Regarding digital sales on iTunes, Swift does not appear to have a follow-up single to “The Fate of Ophelia.” She withheld all individual tracks from iTunes for two weeks, then released only “Ophelia.” Now that all tracks are available, they aren’t generating much sales.
Despite the slowdown, there’s no need to worry for Taylor Swift. It is estimated that her earnings from this album have already reached around $135 million—enough to throw herself a really nice wedding!
