Innovation Fund invests €2.9 billion in net-zero tech

Untitled20design28529

The EU’s Innovation Fund is set to invest €2.9 billion in 61 projects in its newest funding round aimed at deploying net-zero technologies.

These projects will focus on several key areas, including energy-intensive industries, renewable energy and energy storage, net-zero mobility and buildings, cleantech manufacturing, and industrial carbon management.

All selected projects align with the Clean Industrial Deal, the EU’s strategic blueprint for transforming its decarbonisation efforts into a driver of economic growth. This deal was presented in February and emphasizes the importance of fostering a strong pipeline from green technology innovation to large-scale deployment.

As part of the Clean Industrial Deal, the European Commission aims to create a smoother transition pathway for projects initially funded by the €93.5 billion Horizon Europe research programme to move towards market readiness.

However, while Horizon Europe provides critical early-stage funding for innovative technologies, it does not always seamlessly connect with the Innovation Fund’s mission of scaling up and commercializing these solutions. Bridging this gap remains an important focus to accelerate Europe’s green transition.
