A woman has gone viral after orchestrating an unexpectedly romantic gesture—not for her girlfriend, but for her girlfriend’s dog. What she wasn’t prepared for, however, was a widespread misconception that quickly took over the comments section.

Hensy Bensy (@hensybensy) shared her story on social media, revealing how she spent an entire weekend installing lights throughout the garden. The thoughtful upgrade was meant to help her girlfriend’s dog, who is afraid of the dark, feel confident enough to go outside and use the toilet at night.

“Did I just spend an entire weekend putting up garden lights so my girlfriend’s dog who’s scared of the dark can take a s*** in the evening? Yup,” Hensy wrote, sparking immediate interest. The post quickly gained traction, racking up more than 2,300 views and over 730 likes.

To prove just how much she cared for her canine companion, Hensy followed up with a photo of a glowing, fairy-light-lined pathway leading into the garden—offering the pup a safe and inviting route.

According to pet-care experts, dogs can be wary of the dark for several reasons. While they tend to see better in low light than humans, unfamiliar nighttime sounds, lack of visibility, and prior negative experiences can all contribute to a reluctance to go outside after sunset. For anxious pups, gentle lighting can reduce stress and help them feel more secure.

“Till now he’s been too scared as it was pitch black thanks to my girlfriend living in the middle of nowhere,” Hensy added.

While most commenters were charmed by the act’s thoughtfulness, many hilariously misunderstood one key detail. Messages poured in, with users congratulating Hensy for being a “massive green flag” and declaring, “Your girlfriend is very blessed to have you. You are officially dog dad.”

Hensy later revealed that her setup was already working, reporting the pup had finally braved the darkness-free garden and was “very proud of himself.”

Amid the viral attention, Hensy decided to set the record straight. “It appears I’ve gone viral because I spent all weekend putting up lights in the garden for my girlfriend’s dog. The comments section seems to think I am a massive green flag and that’s true love and what a great MAN I am. Except I’m a lesbian and last I checked, a woman,” she clarified in a follow-up post.

Commenters reacted with supportive and humorous messages once they discovered the truth. “It goes to show that the very best a man can be is a regular woman,” one user wrote. “Chivalry isn’t dead. It’s a lesbian,” added another. “Still a green flag. Just has some rainbow in it somewhere,” joked a third commenter. “Women in male dominated fields. Doing it better (as always),” remarked another viewer.

At this time, we have not independently verified details of the case.
