A widespread bug is causing the YouTube Shorts interface to vanish for mobile users, affecting many who rely on the platform daily. Missing elements include the like, dislike, comment, share, and creator information buttons — essential features that allow users to interact and engage with content creators.
A few weeks ago, YouTube began rolling out its latest redesign to Android users, regardless of whether they welcomed the change or not. If you disliked the new interface and wished it would disappear, a new bug might be granting you just that. Users are now complaining that the Shorts interface has completely disappeared on their mobile devices.
Many users have shared their experiences on Reddit, reporting that the usual YouTube Shorts UI elements are missing. The like, dislike, comment, and share buttons — typically found on the right side — have vanished. Even the channel name, logo, and subscribe button, which usually appear at the bottom, are nowhere to be seen.
While this results in a much cleaner interface that focuses solely on the video content, this is almost certainly a bug rather than an intentional change. The like, share, and comment buttons form the backbone of YouTube’s social streaming experience. Similarly, the creator information is vital for the video economy to thrive, making it unlikely that YouTube would purposely hide these features.
Users have attempted several common troubleshooting steps to fix the problem, including force-restarting the app, clearing cache and data, uninstalling and reinstalling the app, and even restarting their phones. Unfortunately, none of these solutions have resolved the issue.
For what it’s worth, neither my colleagues nor I have encountered this problem on Android, iPhone, or the web. However, the volume of reports suggests this is a fairly widespread bug that has yet to be fully addressed.
We have reached out to Google for a comment and to learn more about this bug. We will keep you updated as soon as we receive further information.
Stay tuned.
