Rams will have a new kicker and long snapper this Sunday

Rams head coach Sean McVay is making a pair of changes to the team’s kicking unit ahead of their upcoming game against the 49ers.

McVay announced on Friday that Harrison Mevis will handle the kicking duties. Mevis, who signed to the Rams’ practice squad earlier this week, will take over the role after Joshua Karty struggled throughout the season. Karty missed two critical kicks in last Sunday’s win over the Saints, prompting the coaching staff to make a change.

In addition to the new kicker, McVay also revealed that Jake McQuaide will serve as the Rams’ long snapper this weekend. Up until now, Alex Ward had been responsible for long snapping duties, but the team is looking to improve its special teams performance.

McVay emphasized the need for improvement on special teams moving forward, signaling these adjustments are part of a broader effort to strengthen that phase of the game.
