PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) will close a section of State Route 288 for storm‐damage repairs on Wednesday and Thursday. During the closures, a 120-mile detour will be in effect, adding approximately 2½ hours of travel time between SR 188 and the community of Young.
The work zone is located roughly 12 miles north of the intersection with SR 188—between mileposts 271 and 276, just north of Roosevelt Lake. Closures are scheduled daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., though ADOT notes the construction schedule may change due to weather or other factors.
Why Is SR 288 Closing?
After heavy October storms, crews must dig out a section of roadway at milepost 273.8 to replace a damaged culvert near the burn scar left by the Billy Fire.
Recommended Detour to Young
Drivers traveling from SR 188 to Young should follow this route:
1. Head west on SR 188 to SR 87
2. Continue north on SR 87 through Payson to SR 260
3. Travel east on SR 260 until you reach Young Road at milepost 284.7, then turn south toward Young
ADOT appreciates travelers’ patience and urges motorists to drive with caution through work zones.
