HOUSTON (AP) — Chase Jenkins threw a pair of touchdown passes as Rice secured a 24-17 victory over UAB on Saturday.
Rice shut out UAB in the second half to pull ahead and hold their lead. The Blazers had a chance to mount a late comeback when they took possession at their own 44-yard line.
However, UAB’s hopes were dashed when Ryder Burton was sacked on a crucial third-and-5 play. On the following fourth-and-12, Burton threw an incomplete pass with just 1:42 left in the game.
Despite their efforts, the Blazers were unable to score again, allowing Rice to seal the hard-fought win.
