**Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2: Mysteria Ecclesiae DLC Impressions – A Fitting Finale**
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is one of those odd games that feels like it has been out forever. In reality—and somewhat shockingly—Warhorse Studios’ Bohemia-based role-playing game was only released in February of this year. Our own Sam Chandler gave the game a glowing review, and it’s since been followed up by two excellent DLCs of differing scale and scope.
**A Strong DLC Track Record**
*Brushes with Death* focused on a heartfelt story quest, while *Legacy of the Forge* introduced a new home and business for Henry, allowing him to follow in his father’s footsteps as a blacksmith. It’s been an excellent run, with Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 belonging right beside every other big hitter this year in the Game of the Year conversation.
**Mysteria Ecclesiae: The Final Chapter**
But does the latest DLC, *Mysteria Ecclesiae*, keep the quality flowing? As the final DLC for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, expectations are high for it to be the cherry on top of a rather wonderful cake.
In *Mysteria Ecclesiae*, Henry finds himself wrapped up in a mystery that’s as dangerous as anything he has faced to date. He’s tasked with accompanying King Wenceslaus’ physician, Albich, to a monastery and helping in any way he can. Upon arrival, they discover the monastery has been struck by a mysterious illness, raising instant worries about a possible plague outbreak.
While Albich and others work to treat those afflicted, Henry must explore the monastery, delve into the lives of its inhabitants, and uncover the secrets and sins that no one wants discovered.
**A New Setting and New Challenges**
The DLC unfolds on a brand-new map dedicated to Sedletz monastery. Once the adventure begins, you’re there until the end—no dipping out to the main game map until you’ve wrapped up your investigation.
Upon arrival, your armor and weapons are confiscated, largely due to King Sigismund of Luxembourg’s current stay at the monastery. This means most of the resources you’ve come to rely on are suddenly hard to come by, creating a fresh challenge.
The monastery itself is beautifully designed, as you would expect from the series. Dominated by a massive chapel, there’s space for monks to sleep, eat, pray, and grow food. Vast cellars run beneath the building, and you’ll find countless nooks and crannies for exploration.
**A Cast of New Characters**
Most importantly, the monastery introduces a vibrant new cast of characters. Conversations are plentiful and meaningful, as you work to help people and get to the bottom of the mystery. You’ll make new friends, enemies, and need to decide who to trust.
True to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2’s legacy, dialogue is deep, heartfelt, and sometimes genuinely funny. Henry once again shines as a protagonist, allowing you to explore various conversation paths and continue to play him as a caring, thoughtful human being. There are quests and side quests focusing on the lives of the monastery’s residents, and you’re often able to express care or concern that’s sorely lacking within the rigid social structure.
Gaining people’s trust is rewarding, but playing through the story in a way that earns that trust is even better.
**New Items and Continued Progression**
There’s plenty of new gear to discover, including a unique sword, armor pieces, and a special mask. You can brew new alchemical potions and find skill books hidden around the monastery—all of which can be taken back into the main game for continued use.
**A Worthy Finale**
*Mysteria Ecclesiae* is a fitting final installment in Henry’s adventure, featuring meaningful choices, plenty of fun, and lots of intrigue. It can also be played at any time during your playthrough of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, further increasing its flexibility and appeal.
Once again, it proves that Henry is one of the best protagonists in gaming right now—a man able to overcome his peasant birthright, seeing more of the world than most, but never losing hope for the good in people.
**Final Thoughts**
The only real downside to *Mysteria Ecclesiae* is that it marks the end of the road for Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. All we can do now is sit and hope for a third installment, one that delivers the same level of fun, intrigue, and heart that Warhorse Studios has accomplished here.
