Valve surprised many this week with the sudden reveal of several new hardware products, including the return of the Steam Machine. This brand has previously been used on various SteamOS-focused PCs and gaming devices over the years, but this time, it comes back as a mini PC designed specifically for living room gaming on big-screen TVs. The new Steam Machine is expected to launch sometime in 2026.
Valve announced the new Steam Machine alongside a collection of hardware innovations, such as the new VR/AR Steam Frame and the revamped Steam Controller. This latest Steam Machine is essentially a fresh take on the mini PCs originally released in 2015. It features SteamOS 3 and boasts all-new hardware under the hood.
### Steam Machine Base Model Specifications
The base model of the Steam Machine is powered by a semi-custom AMD Zen 4 CPU with 6 cores and 12 threads, capable of reaching speeds up to 4.8 GHz with a 30W TDP. It pairs with a semi-custom AMD RDNA 3 GPU featuring 28 Compute Units (CUs) and a maximum sustained clock speed of 2.45 GHz, operating at 110W TDP.
For memory, the device includes 16GB of DDR5 RAM alongside 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM. Storage options come in two variants: a 512GB NVMe SSD and a 2TB NVMe SSD. Both models feature a high-speed microSD card slot for expandable storage.
The Steam Machine is reportedly about six times more powerful than the average Steam Deck, enabling it to handle most games smoothly at reasonable settings.
### Steam Machine Verified
Much like the “Steam Deck Verified” certification system, Valve has introduced a similar “Steam Machine Verified” tag. This new certification allows developers to communicate to players whether their games are fully compatible and optimized for the Steam Machine hardware.
