Valve has just unveiled a brand-new Steam Machine system, marking a fresh chapter for the hardware line. Unlike the original Steam Machines released back in 2015, which struggled to find success, this new device is designed more like a traditional gaming console. It runs on the same Linux-based SteamOS that powers the popular Steam Deck.
The new Steam Machine promises impressive performance — Valve claims it is six times more powerful than the Steam Deck. At its core, the system features an AMD 6-core Zen 4 CPU paired with a semi-custom AMD RDNA3 GPU boasting 28 compute units and access to 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM. Complementing this is 16GB of DDR5 RAM. Thanks to this advanced setup, the console supports 4K gaming at 60 frames per second (fps), although achieving this smooth frame rate will require the use of AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) upscaling. Additionally, ray tracing capabilities are supported, enhancing graphical fidelity for compatible games.
Valve will offer two storage options for the new Steam Machine: a 512GB model and a larger 2TB model. Both include a microSD card slot to further expand storage as needed. While pricing details have not been revealed yet, it’s expected that the 2TB version will carry a higher price tag.
In terms of peripherals, the Steam Machine will be compatible with a wide range of PC controllers, alongside a newly unveiled Steam Controller. This controller can be purchased separately or bundled with the console. Customization options also extend to the hardware itself, with an adjustable LED bar that can display different colors, animations, or system statuses. Users will also be able to swap faceplates, allowing them to personalize the console’s look to their liking.
Valve has set the release date for the new Steam Machine in 2026. For continuous updates and coverage, be sure to follow TechRadar.
