For many of us, the weekend is a time to unwind from the workweek. But for Timothée Chalamet, it seems to be the perfect opportunity to hop on a Zoom call and brainstorm ideas for promoting his upcoming film, *Marty Supreme*.
The Josh Safdie film is loosely based on the life of ping-pong legend Marty Reisman, with Chalamet playing the fictional character Marty Mauser. The already buzzy film is set to arrive on December 25, and Chalamet’s dynamic press rollout has been a welcome addition to its buildup.
Early on Saturday morning, the actor took to social media to share a new 18-minute Zoom video featuring the so-called marketing team behind the A24 film. In the clip, Chalamet enthusiastically pitches his ideas for what he calls “one of the most important things that happens on Planet Earth this year. *Marty Supreme*. Christmas Day.”
After brief introductions, Chalamet dives into his excitement for the film and the rollout process. “I wake up every morning, I think culmination, integration, like all of us, and fruition, fruitionizing, which is not a word, obviously, but fruitionizing the release of this movie, like really making sure it comes out in a great way,” he says.
One of his standout ideas involves painting iconic landmarks—such as the Statue of Liberty and the Eiffel Tower—in Marty Supreme orange. He even shares a drawing to illustrate his vision. “My visual artist, it took him six months to mock this up,” Chalamet jokes, before unveiling an orange line drawing of a blimp that looks as if a kindergartner could have created it in minutes.
Kudos go to those joining the Zoom call, who play along with Chalamet’s deadpan delivery. It’s unclear whether they are actors or actual A24 marketing team members, but none “break character” as the pitches grow increasingly absurd.
Building on the blimp idea, Chalamet suggests making a splash at a festival. “Tyler is headlining Flog Gnaw,” he notes, referring to his *Marty Supreme* co-star Tyler, the Creator (real name Tyler Okonma). The festival, Camp Flog Gnaw, was postponed this weekend due to weather in Los Angeles and is now scheduled for November 22 and 23.
“We should have the blimp go above Flog Gnaw and rain ping-pong balls, Marty Supreme-branded, rain ping-pong balls on everyone,” he proposes with excitement.
When a marketer points out the potential safety hazard, Chalamet acknowledges the risk. “I don’t want to put anybody in an unsafe condition, but I don’t want to be too safe about putting out this movie,” he states.
He adds, “If it’s the difference between, you know what I mean, someone losing an arm putting out the movie, but someone gaining an arm intellectually when they see it, I’m a fan of the latter.”
With nearly six weeks left until Christmas, there’s likely plenty more *Marty Supreme* promo fun to come from Chalamet.
