Following the death of Cleto Escobedo III, late night host Jimmy Kimmel’s best friend and the bandleader for his show *Jimmy Kimmel Live!*, he is being honored with two charitable fundraisers started by his family and Jimmy himself.

The host shared the news on his social media page, revealing he had joined forces with the late musician’s family, including his wife Lori and their two children, to start two fundraisers: one with the UCLA Medical Center and another with The Animal Foundation in Las Vegas.

Jimmy, 58, posted on his Instagram page:

> “Cleto was always kind and eager to help others. As we mourn his loss, we have started two fundraisers to celebrate his life and give back.
> The first is for UCLA Medical Center where he received such incredible care. Together we can help vulnerable patients and families in need of financial assistance during hard times.
> And to honor his love of animals, the @TheAnimalFoundation in our hometown of Las Vegas.”

The Animal Foundation’s fundraiser page highlights Cleto’s compassion for animals:

> “Cleto was a compassionate animal lover. He loved each of his rescue dogs like they were family. Please consider making a donation to The Animal Foundation in his hometown of Las Vegas. Cleto would have loved his friends and family helping to provide safety, healing and homes for pets in need.”

Meanwhile, the UCLA Medical Center’s page reads:

> “In memory of our friend Cleto, we’d like to thank all the hardworking specialists, doctors, and nurses at UCLA. They worked tirelessly and generously to give him the best care.
> Cleto was always kind and eager to help others. To honor his generous spirit, we’d like to help vulnerable patients and families in need of financial assistance during hard times.
> Let’s help others in Cleto’s name.”

### Cause of Death

TMZ reported over the weekend that the musician’s official cause of death at age 59 was cardiogenic shock. The report also lists underlying factors such as cirrhosis of the liver caused by alcohol use. His death certificate further notes that he was apparently afflicted by sepsis, kidney disease, and pneumonia.

Jimmy mentioned in his tribute that Cleto had been suffering from a “long illness” that necessitated extensive care at the UCLA Medical Center.

### *Jimmy Kimmel Live!* on Hiatus

Following Cleto’s passing, Jimmy Kimmel explained in a tearful monologue that the show would go on a break “for a couple nights,” though he did not specify when it would return. Episodes airing Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday were repeats of previous broadcasts.

It is likely that *Jimmy Kimmel Live!* will resume live episodes on Monday, November 17.

### Jimmy Kimmel’s Tribute to Cleto

The late night host posted a heartfelt tribute on social media to the late father-of-two and his close friend since childhood in Las Vegas:

> “Early this morning, we lost a great friend, father, son, musician and man, my longtime bandleader Cleto Escobedo III.
> To say that we are heartbroken is an understatement. Cleto and I have been inseparable since I was nine years old.”

He continued:

> “The fact that we got to work together every day is a dream neither of us could ever have imagined would come true.”

Jimmy also asked fans to cherish their own friends and keep Cleto’s wife, two children, and parents in their prayers during this difficult time.
