5 Best Pizza Ovens That’ll Turn Your Home Into a Pizzeria

Arguably, it was Ooni who started this whole home pizza oven revolution. Or at least took credit for it and turned that into profit. The brand has been in the game for a while now, and it continues to innovate with pro-grade products at consumer-friendly prices. The latest flagship oven will let you churn out wood-fired pizzas at home in 60 seconds flat. This sucker gets up to 950 °F, and it’s got enough space to fit one large pie, or two personal ones. Your call, every time. On its face, the Karu 2 Pro is a versatile wood (or charcoal) firing oven-use it to roast chicken, nobody’s telling you not to. But what truly elevates the versatility for us are the legs and handles. It makes it easy to get set up anywhere in your deck, balcony or yard that you have a stable surface. And if you have to move it, no biggie. It’s far from portable, but it’s not stuck in place either. Unfortunately, some basics like a pizza peel attachment are sold separately. The most egregious of these omissions is the gas burning attachment, which probably should be included in the “Pro” oven package as it is. Little secret, the makers of the original smokeless fire pit also make a great pizza oven starter kit. It burns propane gas, which is a whole lot easier and less time consuming than a wood burning oven, and it gets up to 900 degrees Fahrenheit, which is just where you want one of these. It’s got a wide viewport because with something that hot, you’re going to need to give those pizzas second by second supervision, cooking one 12-inch pie will only take a matter of a couple minutes. The sleek, round stainless steel design will look great with any outdoor setup, and the kit gives you everything you’ll need to cook a perfect pizza, including a stone, pizza peel, and a handheld IR thermometer. It’s also relatively portable, so you can take it with you to your buddy’s cookout and really impress some strangers-most men won’t admit this is a dream come true. So far all of these have been causal, personal, one-at-a-time kinda pizza ovens. This is the next step-up, in terms of size and versatility. This is where Gozney enters the battle. You can just look at this dual fuel model from Gozney and see it means the most business. It’s the biggest option on this list, allowing you to make restaurant-sized 16-inch pies, or two smaller 10″ pies at once. The smart display with an easy-t0-read thermostat for both the air and oven temp also makes it the most high tech. Seriously, though, this is an investment. You’re spending over two grand on something you don’t want to be dragging around your yard all the time. It’s going to stay put, so you may as well put it to the best use possible by making more than just pizza. The big ceramic coated interior functions just as well as a brick oven. So you could, hypothetically, drop the temp way down and cook a pork shoulder low-and-slow. The Solo Stove is technically portable, but this home pizza oven is built for impromptu pizza wizardry. The Tread is Gozney’s most compact pizza oven, and while it loses some cooking space it doesn’t sacrifice anything in terms of quality. The lateral gas burner means it cooks just like a wood-fired oven-albeit without the flavor the wood imparts. And the outer shell is durable enough to withstand virtually any condition. Camping in the winter with this thing? Great, it will keep the fire burning during even the nastiest of winds. Like with the Ooni, some pretty bare essential parts are going to cost you extra. That’s great if you already have a pizza peel, sure, but the special stand you can get for this Gozney is especially clutch-so much so we wish it came in the box. Not all of us can be blessed with a beautiful balcony or half an acre out back. This is for if you’re truly stuck in an apartment, or just want to cook pizzas indoors on rainy, cold, or otherwise miserable days. Fire this lil thing up without the worry of setting off any smoke alarms. It gets up to a respectable 750°F, enough to get pizzas cooked, but not quite enough for that charring and blistering you want from a coal or wood fired pizza. It’s better than just trying to use your regular oven. The insulation keeps all that heat inside, ensuring a thorough bake on the crust. And, best of all, kinda just looks like a toaster oven, so you can leave it out on the countertop and no guests will be any the wiser. Not till they start to smell the fresh pizza, that is.
