The Billy Bob Thornton-led neo-Western series Landman is topping the streaming charts in the U. S., even with fans delivering a damning first verdict on the second season, with just a 37% approval rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. However, battling controversy and maintaining its place at the top of the streaming charts is no new feat for a Taylor Sheridan production, especially in light of the prolific producer’s upcoming move to NBCUniversal, with a film deal beginning in 2026 and a TV deal in 2028. Following the recent debut of Landman Season 2, Sheridan’s choice to leave Paramount for pastures new was raised in an interview with his Landman co-creator, Christian Wallace. Asked how he reacted to the news and if it would affect the future of Landman, Wallace replied, “I don’t think it’s affecting anything in the immediate. Right now, we’re just going to keep doing what we’ve been doing.” Wallace is, understandably, putting all his faith in the ever-successful Sheridan, adding, “The thing is, I trust Taylor, and he cares deeply about his stories and the characters he’s written. We all put ourselves in his hands in this process.” He continued, “He’s the showrunner, he’s a writer. He’s the reason why we’re all here. So I’m just going to trust the process in all this, you know?” ‘Landman’ Season 2 Hasn’t Hit the Heights Many Would’ve Expected The “process” in question from the above quote might have led to instant streaming success for Landman Season 2, but, as mentioned previously, the fan reaction to the second season hasn’t been what Sheridan and co would’ve hoped for. In fact, it’s one of the worst reactions to any season of a Sheridan/Paramount collaboration, almost half what the first season received. For comparison, no season of either Tulsa King or Mayor of Kingstown, two other Sheridan series currently occupying the Paramount+ streaming charts, has dropped below a 65% score from audiences. For Collider, Jeff Ewing gave Season 2 a 6/10 in his review, writing, “Season 2 of Landman is ultimately showing signs of more promise after its first three episodes, with [Demi] Moore already delivering a strong performance for a complex character,” following a viewing of the opening three episodes. He continued, “It’s impossible to say what Landman’s true trajectory will be this season, but it’s already a bit closer to a well that hits than it was the first time around. Now, it just has to stick the landing.” Landman Season 2 is streaming on Paramount+. Make sure to stay tuned to Collider for the latest streaming updates from the biggest shows.
